What's on this week's table?

I've gotten pretty heavy into the Eden editor. Now that mission editing is easier than ever, I'm actually having fun doing it now! (Imagine that)

However, I don't like how most of us are having difficulty downloading mods, so I'm branching off from the @SEPJ and @SEair series entirely, and trying to find my own solutions to some of the problems we've been having. That's where I'm at on the R&D side of things. I want to go back to the drawing board.

Additionally, I'd like to prioritize minimization of mods to be specific to each mission I'd like to do. This has a small drawback, in that it will require you guys to be flexible about mods, and not complain about the minor headache. I get it, that mods are a pain in the ass most of the time, but we need better mission design, in general, and I feel that the compatibility issues and load times between the huge bulk of mods that we use are consuming our ability to have fun.

That's my opinion of course.

Make sure you guys keep the SE standard mods downloaded... because until Recovery says something is SE Function Official, it ain't official. This is just my effort to start experimentation, to see what works and what doesn't.

I am considering publishing an unlisted steam workshop mod that we can download that will allow automated downloads of SE mods, without you guys having to do anything extra, save for simply subscribing to the mod itself. I can change it and republish it every time I design a new mission.

This way it keeps the games new, novel, and surprising... while also cutting down on headaches as much as possible.

So, I'm going to be working on that most of this week. I'm not going to be designing any missions until I'm able to get this all sorted out. This next Saturday WILL have an Arma 3 game night, but if there's nothing else we can do, it will probably be a repeat of Operation Horizon (what we all played on Sunday). I'll be sure to make explosives a bit more noticeable inside buildings. Out in the field however, that's up to you guys to be on your game in terms of having "Battlefield Paranoia."

You have to look for explosives all the time, everywhere, behind every corner, at least until you guys are able to develop that "instinct" of knowing where they are.

-I won't put them inside bushes anymore, that glitch sucks.
-I will use mines more often, so that the game decides when things go boom, not me.
-I will try to give reminders at the beginning of each mission to look for explosives.
-Indoor explosives (for the time being at least) will be charges strapped to barrels. They may OR MAY NOT be red in color. Keep your eyes peeled.

Using the Steam workshop for a clan mod set like PW6 is a nice idea, but look out for the one great big caveat. The wording of the user agreement makes, some say, claim to all that is uploaded in a way similar to Facebook. It might not matter to us if we are careful enough about checking every bit of our uploads license and creator's wishes. Just remember that it is an added layer of care, and many great creations will never be hosted on the workshop because their makers file objections and make threats when someone places them there.
It is my hope that with a server rental, we can have our own repository setup for certain times, maybe with Headswe's new repository program.

Unlisted mods, even when published, are classified as private use, which doesn't make them public domain. I could just as eaaily say I'm posting it so I could download my own collection onto another computer, and thats assuming they would find out anyway.
