Author: TazMania720 Mission: Take Back2 Date ran: 20141107
Had a great time last night and I am glad we were able to get my PC tweaked to get that game going.  I am glad that ya'll, Recovery and Zen, enjoyed the mission.  I will take some things I noticed and some things you guys brought up and implement them into my next mission.  If we want to run this mission again while recording, I am down with that and I will make some adjustments to what's in place to enhance it and change it slightly.  Thanks again.  Semper Fortis!  Chief, OUT!

I will eliminate the Event Recap. This one has a better name for the same purpose.

Last night was huge fun. We have a capable dungeon master! Looks like the plan is to go back to uploading to the Onedrive, but in smaller chunks. We can arrange the chunks with Arma3Synch. It's nice how much fun a fairly simple mission can be in this game. ZW is checking out Kalu Khan and dbo Afganistan for some D&D style play. I want to write for Koplic and Bornholm. What about you others?

Interested in an Afghan map as well, I also wouldn't mind seeing snowy terrains and jungle brown river ops where we swift boat in or out, or even scuba infil to eradicate drug lords and so on. The mission was fun, and went well. I think many things are capable with Zeus and we can look forward to more diverse and random game play. What are Koplic and Bornholm. I wish you could include (informative notes, or links) in brackets so I could get more context. I'm not familiar with all these different names

I will try to do that. Kalu khan is a large, varied Afghan terrain, while dbo Afghanistan is very mountainous. Bornholm is a Danish island with some woods and a couple towns; one with large buildings. I haven't seen snow in-game but this might be the place! Koplic is a small medditerrainean plain with rivers running through: Not much for flight since it is bordered by empty land N'ziawasogo is an amazing jungle that is perfect for air insertion or Zodiac/Supercat type stuff.

Couldn't find Koplic, but I did find a miniature manhattan. Have yet to test it. It has enterable buildings with 30+ floors. Could be good for urban ops training.

Last nights practice was terrific. We didn’t have a chance for an in-game, sit down after the urban maneuvers and maybe the forums are the best way to do that; so to save game time. I had a few thoughts.
First, the ranking member of a buddy system or fireteam should not be the point-mover. Having the source of authority be the first-in is bad planning and relegates the trailer to a role of both less action and less decision making.
Clientside mods are on the minds of us team-mates. We want Shack-tac HUD for formation moving and fighting, and permission to use JSRS DragonFyre for sound and Blastcore Phoenix for particle/light effects for those with good enough PCs.

We had some issues with players spawning into bad locations after getting killed. I think that a good way to handle the chaos of “respawn during an action” is to keep the spawn point in our base or starting area and put a teleport access point on a Sicarius flagpole like the one Ed posted a Facebook pic of. This way we avoid handing out arsenal access away from real supply points and the player gets their kit together before asking/getting permission to teleport to the squads location and Zeus or the commanding players don’t have to manage the whole thing. The player can return in a lull and is thus encouraged to better organize their gear saves.

One last point I wanted to touch on. (I'm done trying to post comments. There's not a person in existence that can conduct a proper AAR in 300 char's or less.

Anyway... In response to Bugbear's comment...

"We had some issues with players spawning into bad locations after getting killed. The reason why respawning in action is chaotic, is because of the "slippery slope" conundrum.

In warfare, a small mistake will create holes for the enemy to exploit... big mistakes will create big holes... but ultimately, if you can get those holes patched up quickly enough, you can recover...

If you consistently make mistakes though, and have the mentality of trying to "make it easier" or smoother, you'll never learn from it. It's chaotic on purpose. We're going to be working in joint ops with the 15th MEU... they aren't going to make things easy, so I have to train you guys to that standard.

You will have limited gear. You may need to eventually scavenge gear off the ground. Sometimes you will lose men, and not be able to save them. The chaos WILL happen, and you will have to adapt on the field.

What we have... the mods installed, and the assets available to us... right at this moment... that's all you have. There's no more changes we will make, at this point, unless the 15th MEU changes their setup.

This is it. This is our gear loadout, our mod loadout... the grocery shopping is done. It's time to put in dojo hours now, falling down, feeling the suck, getting back up, feeling the victory.

We can apply energy towards finding mods if we want to... but let's do that at a later date.

The particle mods you guys want, I can tell you right now we aren't going to get that. As it stands, we've already stretched the limits with what we've proposed with the 15th. Until we are able to please them with our skill, and cement our relationship with them, they aren't going to accept any more changes.

Our focus, right now, should be on being deadly, and effective at our tasks. Put in some range time in the virtual arsenal, or make yourself a good training mission against yourself if you can map edit.

Let's get our eyes on the ball, and start developing our A game. We got a lot of work to do, but after what I've seen last night... I'm very confident we've got what it takes.

Bugbear have you played the game "warframe?"

If not, I recommend it.

Saturday Game Night was great. Recovery and Taz working EOS into the mission made for some hairy fighting. I bet none of us have ever seen an A3 game with so many enemy dead. If we are going to pile them up like that, we may need to look into “garbage collector” scripts.
A few things occurred to me when the fun was over. Starting with smoke; I think we could have made better use of it. We could have screened off some directions in a cross-street this way and not been in such a lurch when one of our guys got hit. We could have used a grenadier also, though I doubt it would have changed how things played out. I liked playing in such a target rich environment, but with a small group it might be worth adding some Virtual Supports modules. They will also be more effective against armor than our mortar turned out to be on the first day of the mission. I also recommend J September for some special commendation for his service in soaking up the better part of the enemies AT assets in about seven seconds.
Air weapons officer is more fun than I thought it would be. I hope we can include some gunship in our future missions as well!
The only low point of the evening I had was to do with teamwork. There can be a chain of command and the game can be fun for all. To get this, those playing in leadership roles have to think a little. Don’t tell a player to “go wait in the hall”. That is what you say to a piece of shit who you wish gone. Instead, find a way to give direction that is appropriate to a gaming scenario as opposed to a real-life drill, or just let someone else do the directing. Too much of this kind of thing leads to a “broken chain” and will not encourage others to come and join in. No need for explanations. Just fix it for the sake of the group.

Those who are using Windows 8+ may unlike me, have noticed already that when setting your power management options, you must not only change the main Power Options setting to keep it from turning off devices not being used, but must also turn this feature off for each USB port hub in the Device Manager. This may have solved my joystick issue, though a search shows that players of other flight sims on this OS platform are plagued with interface problems- so let me know if you have any. Please add your thoughts!
